Every Child. One Voice.

Goodbye from the President

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students of Kellogg Middle School for the 2020-2021 school year,

I have to begin by saying it has been my privilege to serve as President of the Kellogg Middle School PTSA for this last year. Even with the craziness that the world of CoVid brought to our lives, I can’t stress enough how much being a part of the Kellogg family has meant to me.

Over the last two years on the PTSA board, I have repeatedly witnessed what a caring community can do to expand and support their children’s school environment and overall experience. So many volunteers devoted countless hours to make our PTSA events, programs, and activities a huge success.

On behalf of the PTSA Executive Board, I want to thank our entire school community for their support of the programs and events for the students at Kellogg Middle School, especially during this year. From basic membership to chairing an event or program, from volunteering to simply attending an event, your contributions of time, effort, and donations validate and broaden the students of Kellogg educational experience. All of you are key to our PTSA’s success, and in turn, your gift of membership expands every child’s opportunity for growth and future endeavors.

Here are some highlights from 2020-2021:

With the necessity of canceling many of our annual PTSA programs due to Covid-19, we reprioritized our tasks by focusing on family engagement, community outreach, DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion), and raising funds to support those programs this year and next.

Community Outreach:

- Sock Drive

- Underwear Drive

- Toiletries Drive

- PTSA Membership Sponsorships for Teachers, Staff & Families

Family Engagement:

- Back to school engagement & free SWAG gifts

- Lunch & Learn Mental Health Chat with Dr Reed

- Parenting Toolkit by Cher Anderton

- JC Pohl Resiliency Building event

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

- MLL outreach

- Supporting Black Voices & DEI district programming

- Microaggression Training with Ranice Innocent

- Affinity Groups support

None of this would have been possible without the support from our staff, teachers, parents, guardians, and community volunteers. Not to mention the significant contribution and exceptional talents of my fellow board members:

Casie Tubbs (Co-President & Community Outreach Chair)), Missy Liu (Secretary & Family Engagement Co-Chair)), Michelle Fogerty (Treasurer), Silje Sodal (Advocacy Chair), Callie Naholowa’a (Membership Chair), Christina Nelson (Fundraising Chair), Danielle Lynch (Fundraising Co-Chair), Audrey Nicol (Communications Chair), Amanda Royal & Tracy Gojdics (Staff Appreciation Co-Chairs), Lori Lynass (Family Engagement Co-Chair), Jessica Ketcham (Family Engagement & DEI Chair), Tara Shadduck (Reflections Chair), Jesse Donovan (Rebates Chair), and Katie Broweleit (Holiday Food & Teen Gift Drive Chair).

I leave the PTSA board in the most capable of hands with Casie Tubbs. She is a fantastic volunteer and long-time resident of Lake Forest Park. Casie has many new ideas and the energy to continue building on what the Kellogg PTSA board has created this year and in years past. You can read her Welcome message below.

This entire past school year undoubtedly placed a toll on each of our lives. However, with the emotional scars of the last several months behind us, we can viscerally see the light at the end of the tunnel. And, we can hold our collective eagerness to see all Shoreline students welcomed back safely into their schools this Fall.

Until then, I wish you happy and healthy new beginnings. Have a great summer, and remember, “Stay Safe and Healthy! Have fun and enjoy your family and loved ones”.

As always, GO KNIGHTS!

Myrna Habermann

President, Kellogg PTSA
